Anointing of the Sick
This sacrament is intended for the
strengthening and healing of those who are ill, elderly or about to undergo
surgery. It is a normal part of Catholic life not just for the dying, but for
anyone who is seriously ill. It may be received when a person is at home or in
the hospital. For more information call (510) 352-1537.
Baptisms - Infant
Arrangements should be made well in advance, so that parents will have adequate
time to prepare for the celebration of Baptism. Parents must be registered
members of Assumption Parish and be in regular attendance for at least six
months before the baptism take place. The preparation includes an
interview with a Pastoral Staff member, followed by one pre-baptism class and a
rehearsal. Parents
are required to attend this class and rehearsal. The sessions are offered every other month on
a Monday evening from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Baptisms are celebrated at 2:00 p.m.
usually once every other month. For more information call (510) 352-1537.
Confession - Reconciliation
Both face-to-face or anonymous (behind the
screen) confessions are held on Saturdays, starting at 3:30 p.m.
Communal penance services are celebrated prior
to the Easter Triduum, Christmas and one or two other times during the year. For
more information call (510) 352-1537.
Eucharist to the Shut-In
Holy Eucharist is brought to
parishioners unable to attend Mass. Trained ministers bring communion to persons
in the hospital, in Board and Care homes, Convalescent homes and to those who
cannot leave their homes. For more information call (510) 352-1537.
Funerals
The family of the deceased should notify one of our parish priests as soon as
possible and set up an appointment to see him before making arrangements or
schedules with a mortuary. The normal Christian Burial consists of a Vigil
Service, Holy Mass and interment at a Catholic cemetery or cremation. Our clergy
will assist family members in planning the funeral liturgies, including
selection of the readings and music. For more information call (510) 352-1537 or
Guidelines for Funerals
Weddings
By diocesan regulation, arrangements for weddings must be made at least six
months in advance of the date of the marriage. This amount of time is required
to reserve the Church, plan the ceremony, and attend an approved Evenings for
the Engaged program. Diocesan policy, regarding those under their 20th birthday
by the date of the marriage, requires interviews with the parish priest or
deacon and a professional counselor, and approval by the bishop's office before
a wedding date can be reserved. For more information call (510) 352-1537.
Mass Intentions
Masses for the deceased and for other special intentions can be scheduled at the
Rectory. See the Parish Secretary there for available dates. The usual offering
for this is $10.00. For more information call (510) 352-1537.
